• CANDIDATE RESPONSE

    Florida Representative District 79

  • Jon Larsen Shudlick (REP)

  • ABORTION - PARENTAL CONSENT: Requiring parental consent for a minor to obtain an abortion? (Currently, Florida law requires only parental notification.)
  • SUPPORT
  • Candidate Comments: It is such an emotional time for that type of decision and the total awareness may not happen until many years later. Severe depression often arises when the mother realizes that she has committed murder.

  • AFFORDABLE HOUSING: Appropriating Sadowski Affordable Housing trust funds generated by documentary stamp taxes on real estate transactions to the State Housing Initiatives Partnership (SHIP) and State Apartment Incentive Loan (SAIL) programs?
  • OPPOSE
  • Candidate Comments: I feel that private money should be the primary if not only factor in affordable housing. As a general rule the tax base surrounding affordable housing is reduced as values decline.

  • IMMIGRATION: A policy against incarcerating undocumented persons who have no criminal record or against whom no criminal charges are filed?
  • OPPOSE
  • Candidate Comments: Undocumented is a soft word for illegal which is a soft word for lawbreaker. If we are a nation of laws how can we allow illegal immigration?

  • PARENTAL EMPOWERMENT: Allowing parents to designate an approved percentage of the State's per-pupil funding for each school-age child that can go toward tutoring, dual enrollment, prepaid college, virtual schooling, and nonpublic school tuition?
  • SUPPORT
  • Candidate Comments: I am for every alternative measure that would bring competition to public education.

  • PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES: Maintaining funding for supportive services for persons with disabilities to live in the community?
  • OPPOSE
  • Candidate Comments: I oppose with the caveat that there should be an absolute budget item limit for these expenditures.

  • RELIGIOUS FREEDOM: Allowing individuals and businesses, including religious organizations, to offer employee benefits and services to the public in accordance with their religious beliefs?
  • SUPPORT
  • Candidate Comments: Yes, as long as it is not taxpayer funded.

  • UNANIMOUS JURY RECOMMENDATION FOR DEATH SENTENCE: Requiring a unanimous jury recommendation to sentence someone to death? (Currently, Florida law requires at minimum a simple majority vote (7 to 5) of the jury to recommend a sentence of death.)

  • OPPOSE
  • Candidate Comments: Biblically there are two methods for carrying out the death penalty; they are stoning and hanging. To think that we pay between $30,000 and $50,000 a year for incarceration of a mass murderer is insanity. Let the liberals and progressives fund the jails for habitual offenders.
