The Co-Cathedral of St. Thomas More in Tallahassee was a sight to behold on Wednesday evening; not only because of the newly renovated sanctuary, but the presence of hundreds of Catholics from all across Florida who filled the pews for the 47th annual celebration of the Red Mass of the Holy Spirit. The Mass is offered to invoke the guidance of the Holy Spirit upon the legislative, executive and judicial branches of government, members of the legal profession and all who are tasked with leading the state of Florida. This year's Red Mass was concelebrated by Archbishop Wenski of Miami, Bishop Estévez of St Augustine, Bishop Barbarito of Palm Beach, Bishop Noonan of Orlando, Bishop Wack of Pensacola-Tallahassee, and Bishop Delgado of Miami. The Bishops were pleased to welcome Governor Ron DeSantis and First Lady Casey DeSantis, as well as Lt. Governor Jeanette Nuñuz, to the Red Mass. Several members of the Governor's executive staff also attended Mass, as well as numerous state legislators, justices, judges and other elected officials.
Bishop Barbarito served as homilist for the Red Mass. "As men and women of faith, we celebrate this Red Mass so that we might join in solidarity with you through the Lord and to pray for the Holy Spirit's continued guidance upon you in your important and varied deliberations, which affect the good of all," said Barbarito. James Uthmeier, Esq., Chief of Staff, Executive Office of the Governor, and Senator Ana Maria Rodriguez served as lectors.
