Against this backdrop, the Trump administration moved to restart the practice of executions in July 2020, beginning with the lethal injection of Daniel Lewis Lee on Jul. 14, 2020.
Since then, the Department of Justice has executed twelve people in the span of six months -- more than any other administration in 200 years. Additionally, the execution of Dustin Higgs is scheduled for Friday, January 15, just a few days before the close of the presidential term.
