One of the highlights of the Catholic Days at the Capitol breakfast on March 8, was the presentation of the Thomas A Horkan Jr. Distinguished Catholic Leader Award to two deserving individuals. Dale Recinella, founder of I Was in Prison Outreach Ministry, was recognized for nearly two decades of ministry to Florida's inmates and his advocacy for ending the death penalty.
Kiera Camron, founding director of Open Door Women's Clinic in Tallahassee and a founding board member of the Florida Pregnancy Care Network, was honored for her years of service to expectant mothers and families in need. Camron received the award posthumously, after succumbing to complications from breast cancer in September 2022. The award was accepted on her behalf by her eldest daughter, Meredith Camron.
