After spending the day at the Capitol on Wednesday, a congregation wearing red filled the pews of the Co-Cathedral of St. Thomas More that evening. Florida's bishops have celebrated the Red Mass tradition in Tallahassee for nearly five decades, inviting the Holy Spirit to guide our state leaders in the executive, legislative, and judicial branches of government. Public officials who attended included Governor Ron DeSantis, legislators, justices, and judges.
The Co-Cathedral of St. Thomas More in Tallahassee was a sight to behold on Wednesday evening; not only because of the newly renovated sanctuary, but the presence of hundreds of Catholics from all across Florida who filled the pews for the 47th annual celebration of the Red Mass of the Holy Spirit. The Mass is offered to invoke the guidance of the Holy Spirit upon the legislative, executive and judicial branches of government, members of the legal profession and all who are tasked with leading the state of Florida.
The Florida bishops will celebrate the 47th Annual Red Mass of the Holy Spirit at the Co-Cathedral of St. Thomas More at 6:00 p.m. on February 2, 2022. The Red Mass invokes the guidance of the Holy Spirit upon the legislative, executive and judicial branches of government, members of the legal profession and all who are tasked with leading the state of Florida.
The Most Reverend William A. Wack, CSC, bishop of the Diocese of Pensacola-Tallahassee, celebrated the 46th Annual Red Mass of the Holy Spirit on February 3, 2021 at the Co-Cathedral of St. Thomas More in Tallahassee.
Members of the community, Catholic and non-Catholic, are invited to join celebrant and homilist Bishop William A. The Red Mass of the Holy Spirit will be celebrated on the evening of Feb. 3 by Bishop William Wack, CSC, at the Co-Cathedral of St. Thomas More, with limited seating capacity. The Red Mass will also be live streamed for Catholic Days participants and all others who wish to attend virtually.
On Wednesday, June 5, a fire was set at the Co-Cathedral of St. Thomas More in Tallahassee. The church is the location where the Red Mass of the Holy Spirit is celebrated annually by the bishops of Florida during Catholic Days at the Capitol.
On the evening of March 27, Catholic Days at the Capitol came to its official conclusion with the 44th Annual Red Mass of the Holy Spirit. All nine bishops of Florida were present to concelebrate the Mass at the Co-Cathedral of St. Thomas More in Tallahassee. The Red Mass provides an annual opportunity for bishops and the lay faithful to gather in prayer with elected and appointed officials as one body in Christ. Congregants invoke the Holy Spirit, praying that those who serve in the executive, legislative and judicial branches of government will be divinely inspired and guided as they carry out their work for the people of Florida.

At the conclusion of the Red Mass on Wednesday, February 17, Mr. Dale Recinella was presented the Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice Cross. Mr. Recinella has demonstrated great zeal for the Catholic Faith and for the works of the Church, particularly during his seventeen years of faithful ministry to the incarcerated and their families, and the families of victims.
As is the custom, Catholic Days at the Capitol came to its official conclusion on Wednesday evening as the lay faithful, members of the Florida bar, legislators, Governor Scott and others of good will joined the bishops in prayer and worship at the 41st Annual Red Mass of the Holy Spirit. Hosted by the Co-Cathedral of St. Thomas More, the Red Mass invokes the Holy Spirit and asks for divine guidance for those who serve in the executive, legislative and judicial branches of government, and members of the legal community.
